This album used to be my favorite, but now a few albums got an edge.
To the track reviews: "Funeral For A Friend" is one of the best ones here, a classic instrumental. Along with "Love Lies Bleeding", an energetic rocker, it makes a real anthem. "Candle In The Wind" belongs to his best known songs - usually only "Your Song" can compete with it's popularity. The song is really nostalgic to me! "Bennie And The Jets" - at first I thought that there's sound of rain in the beginning of the song, before it goes further in the song. With Elton's falsetto that makes one of my favorite live performances. It's really catchy. Well, then the title track. It has remained as one of my least favorite big hits of Elton's. It has grown on me but it still doesn't get as much praise as I probably should give it. "This Song Has No Title" is a very, very beautiful song. The chorus has required some time to grow on me though. "Grey Seal", one of Elton's favorites, is really energetic here, unlike the original version. "Jamaica Jerk Off" is probably the worst track here. In some levels it sounds embarrassing, and otherwise it's just real fun. "I've Seen That Movie Too" is melancholic, but beautiful. "Sweet Painted Lady" used to be my least favorite here. Don't care about it's lyrics - no, that shouldn't be the name of the game! Then we've got "The Ballad Of Danny Bailey (1909-1934). That's an interesting song, both lyrically and musically. However, "Dirty Little Girl" is the one that's my special favorite here. It's really fun! "All The Girls Love Alice" is another interesting song - it has taken lots of time to like the chorus, which is dark, but beautiful. The guitar riff is cool. "Your Sister Can't Twist (But She Can Rock & Roll)" is yet another fun song, it's probably the fastest song Elton has ever released! And then, "Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting)". It's got a classic guitar riff, aggressive piano playing and an anthem outro. What's left now is "Roy Rogers", a song full of nostalgia, "Social Disease", simple fun song, and "Harmony", a classic ending the album that could have been a single.
