Music: Elton John Lyrics: Tom Robinson
Never meant to be so friendly
Never made the room look nice
Never heed a word of warning
Never take my own advice
I got a brand-new problem
Pretty and she's 5 foot 10
I been in love three times this week
I'm just about to fall again
I don't want to fall in love
Never gonna fall in love, again
I don't want to fall in love
Never gonna fall in love
I'm never gonna fall in love, again
Never meant to be so sexist
It's so hard to overcome
Trying hard to fight the feeling
Lechery can be such fun
`Cause everywhere there's lots of foxes
And every cat I meet's a tom
I wish she didn't make me rabid
I wish she wouldn't turn me on
`Cause everywhere there's lots of foxes
And every cat I meet's a tom
I wish she didn't make me rabid
I wish she wouldn't turn me on

Okay, here it starts! Remember to vote cause we need at least five votes before next one appears.
I've always liked this song, it's really nice, pleasant tune. 4½ stars.

"Never Gonna Fall in Love Again":
For me, a pleasant enough song but nothing special either. When I got to side 2 of 21 AT 33, the album became somewhat non-descript and forgettable. Compare that side of music and "Never Gonna Fall in Love Again", in particular, to what we had come to expect from Elton in the 70s...it was disappointing for me. Not a bad song, just not a particularly memorable one either. Also, when examined in terms of when it was released (1980), it paled in comparison to the exciting new music coming out.
2 1/2 stars / out of 5
BiteUrLip: Thanks for getting the song of the day running again!

Doug Yes, I agree completely with your opinion about side two, it is certainly weaker than side one. I had to get this daily poll project carried out again as the old board is going offline...

Is "Never Gonna Fall in Love Again" one of those songs connected to a certain time in your life? Hope I am not being too bold. As you know, I am a big fan of THE BIG PICTURE which I know is not EJ's greatest piece of work but because it connects me to a certain place & time I really like it. Lots of reasons to like a song or an album, aren't there?

Actually it isn't, Doug. I just really went for his vocals on that and the particular melody. I do have songs and albums that have special connections though. One is 'The Road to El Dorado'. Love the music to pieces, but it also connects with a very special time that I always remember when I hear it, therefore I love it even more and it ends up to be my 3rd favorite album.

"El Dorado" (title track) has a powerful time & place meaning for me as well. I have noticed over the years how important that album is to you.

One of my favorites from this album. I gave it 4 1/2 stars. I still think that people should not see the results before they vote though.

One of two songs with Tom "Glad To Be Gay" Robinson lyrics on this album... both are maddeningly hard to figure out, and I figure gayness is involved, considering he was the guy who had the gay hit. Elton's Song was...
This song might be a sort of parody of his image of a straight guy. It's definitely no love song. It's a love 'em and leave 'em thing. It's more like Bernie's handful of songs that are basically about Bernie being horny...
The tune sounds like one from a soothing, pleasant love song, which may be ironic... the kind of thing Randy Newman or Steely Dan might do.

4.5 stars....a good song, I like the lyrics. Pleasant melody, above average love song about not wanting to be in love.
