Hard to beat that last concert outing of yours!
I am just hoping to see & hear some songs that he hasn't done in his non-Vegas "band" concerts in a long time such as "Empty Garden" and "Indian Sunset" and "Tonight" and hopefully "One Horse Town."
A big WKRP fan, are you?

I had a feeling...he has to end it sometime. It's sad. But hopefully, he'll keep making albums. At least he'll have more time to devote to recording if he wants to do it, and I hope he does. It`s what I think. He won`t quit music industry. He`ll keep writing for musicals and hopefully recording new songs.

FAREWELL YELLOW BRICK ROAD possible last concert location?
So, where do you think EJ will choose to play the last concert of his farewell tour? He has favourite places and there are obviously symbolically likely places as well.
I could see the last FAREWELL YELLOW BRICK ROAD concert being played at;
* Madison Square Garden - New York * The Troubadour - West Hollywood
* London, England (where he was born & raised) * Atlanta, USA (his current home)
Thoughts?

My guess is---Madison Square Garden. I've heard him speak at concerts there (on recordings), and he totally loves that arena and has mentioned it's his favorite. Wherever he plays, can you just imagine the price of tickets, how packed it will be, the emotion, and what THAT show will be like!

He has already scheduled 3 FAREWELL YELLOW BRICK ROAD concerts at MSG (2 in October and 1 in November) but I wouldn't be surprised either if he found his way back to New York to end the tour in 2020. I wouldn't be surprised either to see one or two more at MSG this fall as there are open days surrounding the existing MSG shows.
The ticket prices are not obscenely high; prices at MSG are $59 to $249 and are a bit cheaper in smaller market cities (less than $200 top price). My Toronto ticket was $246. Some of the bigger name concerts that I have seen over the past few years have been $249 to $279 so EJ's top price $197 to $249 prices aren't out of line with those. They are certainly higher than our prices last fall (Bangor was $159) but considering it is the end of Elton's touring I went for it at $246.
As you mentioned scalpers will get crazy high prices wherever Elton plays his last concert - which could very well be Madison Square Garden.

Prices aren't bad. What you paid is reasonable. I bet you have a really good seat too.
He HAS to bring back FFF/LLB. Another song I would think they'd play is 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road' (for sure). I wouldn't be surprised if that set-list is loaded with very well known songs. The hits. Maybe a very few rarities, but he'll be playing to vast crowds of casual fans. But, who knows? Maybe he'll surprise us. And, imo, he should end the last show with 'Your Song'. His special signature song.

I agree that Elton will need to bring back "Funeral For A Friend / Love Lies Bleeding" for the FAREWELL YELLOW BRICK ROAD tour as it is his ultimate progressive rock epic and debatably his best album tracks ever. I would think that "Your Song" has a good chance of being the last song in the encores. I would also think that "Funeral For A Friend / Love Lies Bleeding" could be the 1st encore song ending with a powerful dramatic visual light performance accompanying the music. Then "Your Song" would end on an emotional level.
I agree with you that the show will be very heavily "hit" based but it would be nice to see some hits rarely played. I think a two song suite of "Empty Garden" and "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" (which sounded great live in 1998) would be awesome and effective. What do you think? A song like "Nikita" which was monster big, especially in Europe, when it came out would be nice for people to see, especially in the European countries that he will play. The only thing that would be disappointing is if the FAREWELL YELLOW BRICK ROAD set list was only a tweaking of his recent years set list. Hopefully songs like "Philadelphia Freedom" and "I'm Still Standing" and "The _itch is Back" have fresh new renditions - those songs haven't seen much fresh blood in years. "Levon" is currently a masterpiece, isn't it?
By the way, the tickets that I got for Toronto were connected to my Rocket membership with eltonjohn.com. For all "platinum" or what they reclassified as "VIP" status memberships, we were given a pre-sale code with FIRST access to presale purchases (maximum 2 tickets). Tickets are very good; I got row 12 directly in the centre - at cost. Can't beat that. I sent eltonjohn.com a thank you note for taking care of long-time fan club members. I received a nice response from them.

This tour is the farewell of Elton, in what we call "World Tour". Of course, as Elton has said, he will continue to make albums and concerts, but presumably they will be in the United Kingdom, his place of residence and where his children are enrolled.
I think that Set List should be oriented to the fans, and not the general public, as it was oriented in his last years.
Without a doubt, the following songs will not be missing from the Set List:
Saturday Night's Your Song Tiny Dancer ( I don't consider a HIT, but Elton loves this song) Bennie and The Jets Sorry Seems Goodbye Yellow
And the rest must be songs desired by the fans, who have not played in a tour for years, for example :
Club at the end of the street with John Jogerson Empty Garden Made in England Captain Fantastic Nikita (with band) Cold as Christmas One Horse Town Country Confort...

Omit 'Levon', RocketLight???!!! OMgosh! I sure HOPE not! That was the highest of the highs for me at the concert I went to.
Doug, I think he'll especially do 'Empty Garden' in MSG. Another reason why MSG is so special to him is because that's where he played with his idol John Lennon, and his only time of playing with Lennon.
He probably won't do 'Nikita' in the U.S., but in Europe it's a strong possibility. I'm *sure* he'll do 'Phil. Freedom', and 'Daniel', but if he could only fancy those songs up!!
I'm not sure he'll do 'Lucy....' on this tour, but it was sure enjoyable in '98, and, believe it or not, I actually got to see that one live at a show in MSG, courtesy of a friend. That was the tour where he was also doing 'I'm Gonna Be a Teenage Idol'. Those were the days of some *interesting* set-lists.
Btw, those tickets are absolutely *fabulous* that you got!!!

re: set list for FAREWELL YELLOW BRICK ROAD:
I wouldn't want to see "Levon" in all its extended glory be dropped either.
Those 1997-98 THE BIG PICTURE tour set lists were great. I saw him 4 times on that tour (Nov. 97, Feb. 98, Apr. 98, and August 31, 1998) and the set list kept changing; it made going to shows really exciting. I was blown away when he started "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" during the encore; only time I ever saw it live.

I was able to get tickets to a couple different shows with absolutely no problem using my AMEX card through Ticketmaster. Good seats too. Can't wait!

One interesting point: Once we can see where the concerts are placed in the calendar, we should look for a possible gap for possible session days for a new album. But, can we see all dates for those 300+ shows at once?

pianoman109: Congrats on getting your tickets! Which shows are you going to? Doug Thanks! I'll be going to Grand Rapids to see him with my folks who played Elton John music all the time growing up and when I asked them what "being gay" meant (when I realized Elton was), they told me "It just means he loves a man just like how other men love women. It doesn't matter to us, so long as he's happy." I think it was their way of signaling to me that it was okay for me to be gay, even though it took me several more years to come out. This is a good way to bring things full circle. I'll also see him in Cincinatti, where one of my good friends lives. She and I listened to Elton's music all through college.
