JEWEL BOX: Elton has just released a massive collection of songs in package form. The series is called JEWEL BOX and features everything from the big 9-LP and 8-CD collection to other LP and CD and digital options. The rarest of rare songs including the album before EMPTY SKY that was never released are now available. So are most of the B-sides to the singles from the 80s and the list goes on. The songs are from 1965 to 2019. There are 148 songs in the full CD and LP packages! www.eltonjohn.com/stories/jewel-boxNovember 13, 2020 is the release date. Lots of cool stuff! Doug

I think i'm gonna get this. Is it available as CD only or do you get both LP and CD? I don't have a turntable so LPs are pretty much useless to me.

Regarding EJ's new JEWEL BOX sets; there are many options including the complete 9-LP box or 8-CD box or other options such as a 2-LP, 3-LP, or 4-LP package. The entire box package is also available digitally on every platform, I believe..
As of today, the "Sing Me No Sad Songs" Elton & band demo is available digitally such as on iTunes and is now on YouTube. It is the first song to be released. The packages are to be released November 13.

Rather interesting that this package is to be released nearly 25 years to the day that To Be Continued, Elton's previous Box Set, was released (Nov 8, 1990).
This new set certainly looks to be a fascinating look at Elton's career, especially, it seems, the earliest years.

rocketman:
This JEWEL box is massive. I really enjoyed TO BE CONTINUED but this JEWEL BOX one has large numbers of rare and never released songs including songs between 1965 and 1969. There was apparently an album of EJ songs (including "Regimental Sgt. Zippo") to be released before EMPTY SKY and most or all of those are in the box set. Lots of 80s B-sides that have never appeared anywhere digitally. I ordered the 8-CD box set plus the 2-LP called JEWEL BOX: AND THIS IS ME which is a collection of songs that EJ has a real strong affection for. It has a couple of hits.
Put it on your Christmas list!

I pre-ordered the 8 disc CD package on Amazon. Looks like a nice package. It will be nice to have all these songs in high quality. Still alot of rarities left off it though.

From the JEWEL BOX: "Snow Queen"
In addition to the digital release of "Sing Me No Sad Songs" on September 17th is also the digital release of "Snow Queen" which was a BLUE MOVES outtake which initially showed up as the B-side of "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" in 1976. The song is apparently a not so enthusiastic Bernie commentary on Cher at the time.
The JEWEL BOX is likely to have a number of songs released digitally (possibly weekly) running up to the box set release on November 13.

Where are 'Across the River Thames', '5th Avenue' etc? It's interesting, but pretty much weird compilation. Too many discs. I would be only interested in CD's 6 and 7. Though I have all those songs, I would like to have them with better sound. Also way too expensive for me.

nix:
Remember, you can buy digitally (eg. iTunes, etc.) just the select tracks that you wish from whatever disks starting November 13 or you can buy one of the three LP collections; one is a 2-LP album, another is a 3-LP album, and the last is a 4-LP album.
I actually have a lot of the 80s and other rarities (eg. "Hey Papa Legba") because I bought so many of the 45s (singles) when they first came put. Almost all of these, however, were never released digitally until now.
For me, I am looking forward to the songs that had been assembled as an album prior to EMPTY SKY and lots of others. Nice not to see another "hits" package, for sure.

Well...They weren´t b-sides but outtakes. And no outtakes on this compilation.
But i understand your point. If these songs were included, songs as Red or Mandalay Again for example should have been included too.
Strange thing is that they haven´t included Hey Armadillo & Perect Love which were available as B-Sides on an australian edition of Someday Out Of The Blue...

I also find it somehow sad that he didn't include here 'You Gotta Love Someone' - one of my most favorite songs ever that also turned me into his fan back then. It's not anymore on any hit collection and now he had opportunity to put it here and he didn't. He probably doesn't care about song. Strange.

Good point about "You Gotta Love Someone." It has never shown up anywhere other than on its initial release. It was so popular here in Canada, that it went #1. Maybe it was the time in his life that the song came out that EJ doesn't like to revisit; those were tough days for him. Regardless, it is a good song.

One reason why is because Elton abandoned the volumes on the Greatest Hits packages, He switched to a new compiliation with the same songs. So alot of the songs starting with IDWGOWYLT till present have been ignored. I agree with Nix that You Gotta Love Someone should have been on at least one of these albums. People in most cases won't buy the same album with a different cover. Elton John Greatest Hits Volume 4 still has not been released. What great hits have been abandoned?
