REGIMENTAL SGT ZIPPO, EJ's first album that never was, is finally going to be released on RECORD STORE DAY 2021: The release date is June 12, 2021 and the 180 gram limited edition (7000) vinyl LP will feature the original 12 songs that were slated for release in 1968 - before Elton's actual debut EMPTY SKY in 1969. Elton's recent JEWEL BOX did feature 6 of the songs but this special vinyl release for RECORD STORE DAY will include all 12 of the completed songs originally slated for REGIMENTAL SGT. ZIPPO. Despite the global pandemic in 2020, vinyl records continued to sell more & more. The only way, at this point, to buy this REGIMENTAL SGT ZIPPO vinyl album is to go to a real record store. Imagine! This is the link to the official RECORD STORE DAY 2021 Elton release: recordstoreday.com/SpecialRelease/13674It is great to actually hear music from early original analogue tapes being pressed on superior heavy high-grade 180 gram vinyl. Check out the RECORD STORE DAY 2021 site for the June and July "drop" dates for the hundreds of other vinyl releases going on. Some pretty cool stuff. Doug

Newloneranger:
These RECORD STORE DAY releases tend to be in-store vinyl only at first. Sometimes it is vinyl only - period. Occasionally, these exclusive releases do end up available digitally and even on CD but certainly not always. Further, occasionally the RECORD STORE DAY in-store vinyl releases also end up much later on Amazon sites as well.
Elton's RECORD STORE DAY 2017 release of the double-vinyl 17-11-70 I believe was not available on CD. EJ's RECORD STORE DAY release of LIVE FROM MOSCOW with Ray Cooper eventually got a CD release, so to answer your question, it is hard to know at this point if REGIMENTAL SGT ZIPPO will also be available on CD.
I will post it here if I see it listed on CD or hopefully someone else may know the info and can assist both of us.

REGIMENTAL SGT ZIPPO is out! Elton & Bernie's not-to-be first album has finally seen the light of day as it was intended in 1968. It "dropped" yesterday, June 12, on RECORD STORE DAY 2021 in vinyl-only form. Of interest is that the production of the album was done by Caleb Quaye. Dee Murray played bass while Dave Hynes did the drumming. On EMPTY SKY, it was Tony Murray on bass and Roger Pope on drums with Steve Brown doing the producing. Caleb played guitars on both. There is one song on REGIMENTAL SGT ZIPPO that had EJ write the lyrics while Caleb wrote the music - a first and last for that approach! It is clear that Caleb Quaye had a significant influence and contribution to Elton & Bernie's songs in these early days. A great look at each song from the album has been done courtesy of eltonjohn.com and is well worth checking out: www.eltonjohn.com/stories/regimental-sgt.-zippo-in-detailDespite camping out for 3 hours outside our local record store, the demand was so high for the limited pressing that the album was already sold out when I got in! I eventually tracked down a copy by locating another store somewhere else in Canada (lots of online checking!) that put the album online for sale after the RECORD STORE DAY had finished. Nice psychedelic cover art! Newloneranger: nothing said about the the album coming out digitally or on CD...yet. I will post this info if or when I hear about it. Doug

Update on REGIMENTAL SGT ZIPPO:
For those who wanted to get a copy of Elton's REGIMNETAL SGT ZIPPO on the recent June 12, 2021 RECORD STORE DAYS vinyl release, there is good news.
The vinyl album is available new and can be found in limited numbers at amazon.uk and amazon.com at slightly elevated prices plus at actual record stores that have remaining copies. The world of supply and demand. The albums are sold by private record stores but available on Amazon.
No news about a CD or iTunes release yet.
