Elton has just released (August 13) a new song titled "Cold Heart" with Dua Lipa - remixed by Pnau:
In 2012 Elton released an album credited Elton vs Pnau titled GOOD MORNING TO THE NIGHT. Pnau (Australian trio) took existing Elton tracks and remixed them (a "mash-up") into reconstructed songs. That Elton album went #1 in the UK and #9 in France. "Cold Heart" is created from the same approach - also by Pnau. The songs took on an electronic sound, often with dance sensibilities.
From my ear you can clearly hear the following songs used by Pnau in this new track: "Sacrifice" and "Rocket Man" and "Kiss the Bride" and "Where's the Shoorah?" There appears to be possibly one or two more EJ songs used in the mash-up of this song...
A new interesting animated video accompanies the release of "Cold Heart."

Monotonous, bland and horrible piece of crap. Why does Elton need to let everyone massacre his music!? It sounds like his melodies lost their chords here, so everything sounds like one nonsense song without beginning and without the end. Sterile and emotionless piece of garbage for a sterile and emotionless generation of people.

Elton clearly tries to please the younger generation, and that might not do good for his music...

Not as bad as it could be, as I listened now. I think the songs don't work together that well. All the originals are much better, which is not a surprise.

re: "Cold Heart" by Elton & Dua Lipa:
Billboard magazine has just announced that "Cold Heart" has been voted "This Week's Favourite Music" on their poll of new songs beating out other artists such as Justin Bieber.
iTunes stated that the song is currently #2 (5 straight days since release) on their British chart.
A bit of a buzz...

The song would be better without Dua Lipa. When i first heard this song I thought it was the first single from Elton vs Pnau2 but I guess I was wrong. Its ok..

The song is also in the Billboard Hot 100. It's the first entry on that chart for Elton since Someday Out Of The Blue.
As for my opinion on the song, it's not as good as anything on the Elton John vs Pnau album. That album was well-conceived, with shifting moods blended to near perfection. Here, it just feels like a bland mash-up. There's no climax, no build-up. It just seems flat.
3 stars.

rocketman:
As good as "Cold Heart" is, I agree that pretty much everything on Elton & Pnau's GOOD MORNING TO THE NIGHT album from 2012 is superior. "Cold Heart" is good and does mash-up 4 EJ songs effectively but some of the remixes / mash-ups from GOOD MORNING TO THE NIGHT are really quite well done. That instrumental "Sixty" still blows me away.
I wonder if the success of "Cold Heart" will stimulate a "Volume 2" in terms of another full Elton & Pnau album release. We'll see.
