Doesn't get as great as the studio version. Like Elton said, they were pretty shy and scared during that show. Still, 5 stars.

"Someone Saved My Life Tonight" from Wembley Stadium - 1975:
A great song with a "fair" rendition." To be fair, EJ had a brand new band (Nigel & Dee had just been fired) and it was possibly the first live performance of the song. Nigel, I feel is superb on ballads and power ballads as a drummer and his signature sound on this song is missing on this live version.
There is a very good live version of "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" on a special CD out there for the ONE NIGHT ONLY concert in New York which sounds much better than this one.
I gave this: 3 1/2 stars

I *just* listened to this, and, to me, it was GREAT! Dramatic ending. And I love all that guitar in this version. I had to give it 5+! Actually, one of my favorite versions of the song. Another favorite version (or versions) are the ones from the 1980 tour.

4 stars....a good rendition, but the studio recording is superior.

And while Roger Pope was a great drummer in his own right (such as on Westies and Blue Moves) Nigel's playing on both the studio version and the ONO performance better fits the song.

Yeah, Nigel is really quite good on power ballads like "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me" and "Someone Saved My Life Tonight." That ONE NIGHT ONLY version of "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" just like the Central Park version are tremendous and the way that song should be played. The band and EJ should really go for it on "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" with a powerful extended outro and ending. No holding back.
