This 90's album has quite bad reputation. I love the album, although there are a few low spots.
"Teardrops" is the first track, it's an uptempo pop song with K.D. Lang. It is a good song, but I prefer it with Lulu. "When I Think About Love" is the first low spot, a truly throwaway love song that doesn't have any memorable elements. Then we have "The Power" with Little Richard. That's another uptempo song and it's even better than the opener. It's very groovy! "Shakey Ground" comes next, and that's a R&B number. It is an okay song. Then we have "True Love" with Kiki Dee, which is one of my top spots on the album! The original version is very old, but this new version beats those easily. Things get even better in "If You Were Me" with Chris Rea. That song has the mood that I feel in many brilliant Chris Rea songs. Then we have "A Woman's Needs", the only EJ & BT song recorded for this album. It is a fine song. Then comes the number one song - "Old Friend" with Nik Kershaw, and that has a very catchy environment, it's a soft rocker but still very energetic. Right after that one comes the total drop in quality, to 1½ stars, and that is "Go On And On". I honestly wonder what the heck did Stevie Wonder think when he composed this song! It is so hopeless and embarrassing, that it makes me laugh when I listen to it. Things do not get much better with the next song, a poor remake of an old classic "Don't Go Breaking My Heart". It was totally massacred for this album. But then comes "Ain't Nothing Like A Real Thing", a song that's very old but works excellently here. Love the arrangement. "I'm Your Puppet" comes next, and that is an okay song. It's tender and playful. "Love Letters" is another good song. However, "Born To Lose" is another low point in this album. It is corny, mainly because of the sum of the lyrical content and low voice of Leonard Cohen. Two more tracks to go, and the first is "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me" live with George Michael, and that is my favorite version of the song. George's melody in the second half of the song is excellent! And then the second is "Duets For One", another song that's influenced by Chris Rea. It's one more definitive highlight from the album.
