What's behind Elton's announcement? A new album? Final Curtain Shows with insecurities in the set list? RocketMan the biopic? 2018 will be the year of Elton John, Diamonds were the first step of a list of celebrations about the EJ and BT anniversary of song writing. Your thoughts? 50-30-25-15

jackrabbit:
Good question. I was surprised to see that on his webpage. What do you think? I would like to see the "final curtain" announcement but it seems early for that.

I think there will be at least one more album. Hopefully more.

If it is a retirement announcement then it would make sense to do it worldwide to squelch rumors. He has been talking about it for a while now. It would be a 2 year goodbye....think about it. He wants to be with his boys.

Elton's upcoming January 24th announcement:
I could imagine it being a temporary retirement (2 years as posted by Pinky) or an announcement of the so-called last "final curtain" type of tour.
I would be surprised if he essentially slid into retirement without some final tour of major markets...

re: Elton's January 24th announcement: eltonjohn.com sent an email with this video clip which they have kindly posted on YouTube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-MQBhBwvgMIt is a teaser about tomorrow's announcement. As you will notice, a display was set up in King's Cross Station in London. The video makes quite a bit of a connection with his legendary Troubadour shows. The only thing I don't want to see EJ do in the future is go on to a "talent" TV show as a permanent guest. To me, that would be an embarrassing way to wind down a career. Doug

Hmmm. A special announcement? Sounds like something especially unique to me. Wish it was a new album. Not unique enough though. Could be retirement, but that's not exactly a unique announcement either. I don't believe, Doug, it'll be a permanent guest on a talent show, because I think he does not like doing those things. I, frankly, can't imagine what he's going to announce....
Edit: I don't know---watching that YouTube video again makes me wonder if it IS retirement. Understandable, but I don't like that idea one bit. Makes me sad.

Jack Rabbit:
I already have my tickets for Toronto (September 2018) but hope to see at least one more concert as the tour nears its end in 2020.
