The third album of the eighties, still not showing what Elton could do at best. But it's still a great album.
The starter of the album is a soft rocker, "Dear John", which has lots of energy. "Spiteful Child" continues with the same aim, but I don't hear the same power in that unlike in the starter. Same with "Ball & Chain", except that it's the softest of these three songs. "Legal Boys" used to be a weak track for me, but it has grown. "I Am Your Robot" has the kind of music that irritates, but actually it's really hard rocking, especially in the end. Then we get "Blue Eyes", which has a great marriage between the lyrics and music. "Empty Garden" is the highlight on this album for many, but I don't have it as number one. It is emotional, mostly because of the lyrics. "Princess" has a cool mood, why I like it. "Where Have All The Good Times Gone" is a nice pop number, but the alternate rocking mix is much, much better, with Davey's powerful guitar solo in the end. What we have left is "All Quiet On The Western Front", which is about a Christmas mood during WW1. I love the song, mainly because of the music. A perfect end for the album!
