Writer: Elton John
Like I said baby
If you go astray
Well then go on
Go your own sweet way
I thought you knew by now
You do just what you please
And here's to the next time
Here's to the next time
How many times
Have you gone before
And how many times
Have I forgiven you once more
Never had to wait
Like I waited for you
And here's to the next time
Here's to the next time
When you're gone
The time drags by
I wish you'd learn
Not to make me cry
To make me cry
So if you're gonna leave me
Never to come back
Break it to me gently
Or my world will crack
So be sure to let me know
That I'll never say
Here's to the next time
Here's to the next time
Here's to the next time

Never cared much about this, it's probably the weakest ES bonus track.
3½ stars.

"Here's To The Next Time" - B-side and on RARE MASTERS:
"Here's To The Next Time" is a very early (March 1, 1968 release) Elton track which appeared as the B-side to his very first "Elton John" single "I've Been Loving You." The song is credited as an Elton & Bernie composition but is actually an Elton-only song - one where he decided to give his newly-found lyricist Bernie equal credit. Bernie has stated that "I didn't write it." The song is apparently a message to vocalist Marsha Hunt who had left EJ's Bluesology to perform in Hair. "Here's To The Next Time" resurfaced on the 1992-93 RARE MASTERS CD package.
Guitarist and friend Caleb Quaye provided the production and played guitar on this early track and on the A-side as well. The song came shortly after Elton played his last-ever gig with Bluesology. Caleb also stated that these songs "came from the pressure to be commercial" and were not like the songs that Elton was writing privately late at night in the mostly empty studio - songs which were more from the heart.
"Here's To The Next Time" has a rare early career brass section and was possibly better than its A-side "I've Been Loving You." The single did get some promotion but failed to generate any interest in what was a fast-changing and exciting time in music. Can't imagine how tiny Bernie's royalty was for his first (supposed) co-writing effort with Elton!
Rating: 3 to 3 1/2 stars

Funny, I like it quite a bit but give it 3 1/2 stars, like others here who don't like it much. I love the chorus and the horns.
