I'm going to comment only on tracks by EJ, not by the cast - because I don't remember them! First we've got "Circle Of Life". That's a lyrically very positive song, and the music sounds that way too. The song ain't just as ambitious as some of Elton's power ballads, so it gets a high rating, but not the highest rating. "I Just Can't Wait To Be King" is a joyful song, although it in reality shouldn't be that joyous - cause usually when someone becomes a king, the old one dies. Finally we have "Can You Feel The Love Tonight?". That's supposed to be a gentle love song, celebrating the miracle of love, but it quickly makes you think of sex. And that makes it corny. 1. Circle Of Life ***** 2. I Just Can't Wait To Be King **** 3. Be Prepared *** 4. Hakuna Matata ***½ 5. Can You Feel The Love Tonight? ****½ 6. This Land ***** 7. To Die For ***½ 8. Under The Stars ***½ 9. King Of Pride Rock *** 10. Circle Of Life *****+ 11. I Just Can't Wait To Be King *****+ 12. Can You Feel The Love Tonight? *****

Pretty cool album; one of the first Cds I ever got (before, everything was tape or vinyl!) Maybe it was even the first actually!! But purists of Elton's tend to sometimes dismiss this album... Like you can't compare it to "Madman Across The Water" or even "Rock Of The Westies" which are supposed to be less commercially successful, but more artistically interesting... I disagree... I think each of them is great in its own way... I agree... I disgree... I don't know... lol...

I think "Madman Across The Water" is a Masterpiece! better than the Lion King or Rock of The Westies...But The Lion King has given an exposure to Elton in the 90's... Or the countrary... Hard to know...

I'm only rating the songs I've listened to recently - I haven't played this whole disc through in ages. Overall, I rated it 3.5, and it has only one stellar song on it, Elton's rendition of Circle Of Life.
Can You Feel The Love Tonight? while good, doesn't quite measure up to Elton's better love songs, but I should add that his performance of it on One Night Only is better than the studio version and really quite good.
This album sold a ton of copies, over 10,000,000, and spawned a long-running Broadway hit, but for me personally, it features some clever lyrics by Tim Rice and some fun music by Elton, but is less of an Elton John album than the subsequent and much less popular soundtrack The Road To El Dorado.
One passing note was that I was surprised to find that Rick Astley actually contributed backing vocals on one song.
