This one was one of the first Elton albums and music generally that I bought. I remember liking it very much even back then.
Going to the track overviews: The starter track "Weight Of The World", is a perfect example of a relaxed melody. The chorus is a little worse than the verses, but not too much. Then we've got "Porch Swing In Tupelo", no idea what it is, Elvis' birthplace or what, but it's a brilliant song. It grows really well towards the end. And next comes my favorite of the album, "Answer In The Sky". That's a song about hope, which helps to sell it to me, but what matters the most is the music, and that's brilliant here. The following track is a country number called "Turn The Lights Out When You Leave", used to be not that great for me, but it has grown on me. It's got sad lyrics to me. Then we have "My Elusive Drug", which is a dark song; not one of my favorites. "They Call Her The Cat" is, and worked even better live. And next one, "Freaks In Love", is my least favorite from the album. It just stumbles in it's tryout to satisfy. "All That I'm Allowed" is touching, although you can dislike the musical part. "I Stop And I Breathe" used to be my least favorite; now it's just one of the least favorites. "Too Many Tears" has also not been one of the top songs. I don't like the way it sounds, it kind of doesn't belong to this album sound-wisely. Then we have "It's Getting Dark In Here", which is one of my favorites. It is a standard, great song. The album closes with "I Can't Keep This From You", which somewhat fails as a love song.
Bonus tracks: "The Letter" is the first of them, and it is an average song, mainly because it's so short. It seems to have other features in condition, except that it's damaged by the musical Billy Elliot. "Merry Christmas Maggie Thatcher" sounds great... until you realize what's being sung in the song. It's an evil song and the lyrics spoil a good potential Christmas hit. The final song, "Electricity", is true greatness.
