If I wasn't born to love you, why was I born at all
If I wasn't meant to hold you, what are these two arms for
If I can't protect you, what are these muscles for
If I can't enrich your life, I might as well be poor
If I couldn't see you naked, I might as well be blind
If I couldn't treat you right, wouldn't I be so unkind
And you were made for me
You were made for me
You weren't born to be alone
And you were made for me
You were made for me
You were made for me
Flesh and bone, it's etched in stone
That you were made for me
If I couldn't translate fantasy, imagine how I'd feel
If I couldn't hear your secret, my ears would both be sealed
And if I can't make love to you, this body has no use
If you believe I loved you, you wouldn't need no proof
And if I can't return to you, I wouldn't need my legs to run
And if I can't draw warmth from you, why do I need this sun

An okay b-side, not good, not bad, but okay. Used to irritate me but now I tolerate it better. It still isn't the kind of melody that I'm a fan of though.

Probably the weakest new song from Too Be Continued but still good. 4 stars

"Made For Me" from TO BE CONTINUED:
Apparently written on Mother's Day 1990 while visiting his mother. EJ performed this in a more upbeat R&B version live than what appeared on the TO BE CONTINUED box set. A decent song written at a time in EJ's life just before he finally overcame his multiple addictions.
Pretty much a new band line-up with a few familiar faces (James Newton Howard and Steve Lukather) and popular producer Don Was. The songs that came out of that session (including the single "You Gotta Love Someone") featured these musicians and producer and were generally received in a luke-warm manner from the public except "You Gotta Love Someone," which scored a big #1 in Canada. Apparently all 4 songs from the sessions were recorded in ONE take each! Overdubs were added later. Rumours were that a full album project was being considered. It never did happen.
I always "wanted" to really like "Made For Me" and I am a huge R&B fan but the song just never stuck with me. Give credit to EJ for bringing in Don Was as a hot producer and select musicians to generate a certain sound.
I would liked to have experienced it live in its more upbeat version played in a few shows in 1990. Interestingly, a band from the 1950s called the Eltonites released a song by the same title!
Rating: 3 to 3 1/2 stars

4.5 stars...from the album that never was (or should I say Was)...all four of these Was-produced songs, included in the box set, are quite good (though Was's production wasn't quite as sharp, to my ears, as that of Gus Dudgeon, Clive Franks, or Patrick Leonard, but it was passable). The songs themselves, including this one, are worthy as the core of an album, had Elton and Was ever gotten on with such a project in earnest. They're an interesting glimpse of what could have been a potentially very good album.
Luckily, Elton was in a pretty good place by this time anyway, having strong albums in the late-80's and on his way soon to writing and recording The One, so it's not like he really needed an album in between.

I love it. This needed to be on an album. It's great when Bernie and Elton get earthier, and tougher. 4 1/2.

4 Very good... chorus somehow repetitive, but I like the atmosphere.
