Good morning world, it's a brand new day
I'm packing my bags and I'm going away
I'm moving my legs and my city tired bones
I gotta get away from the busy man's phones
Gotta make a move where the living is wild and free
If you want to get happy them people come along with me
A fee fa fou fafafafa fouu
Run along boy, set a place for me
I'm getting so tired of the company
I'm getting _____ looks from the big white man
I gotta get away just as fast as I can
Good morning freedom
Gotta break away
Gotta break away
Gotta break away
Good morning freedom
It's another day
It's another day
It's another day
Good morning freedom
A fee fa fou fafafafa fouu
____________ is the same old game
A city tired living is the game to play
Loving thy neighbour is ___________
There's only one way to get the people to sing

Not a big fan of the song, and Elton's cover.
3½ stars.

"Good Morning Freedom" from THE LEGENDARY COVERS:
Released by Elton as a part of his covers of current hit songs in the late 60s and early 70s. "Good Morning Freedom" had been made a modest hit by Blue Mink which saw the song reach #10 in the UK. Assisting Elton with backing vocals was Clare Torry who would go on to perform magnificently on Pink Floyd's "Great Gig in the Sky" from their DARK SIDE OF THE MOON album. Interesting to hear these two artists who had yet to achieve fame and success in the music business. Blue Mink in those days used both Herbie Flowers on bass and Barry Morgan on drums who would be used frequently by Gus Dudgeon on the ELTON JOHN, TUMBLEWEED CONNECTION, and MADMAN ACROSS THE WATER albums. Four other members of Blue Mink would also appear as backing vocalists on Elton's early albums. In 1972 Ray Cooper was also to join Blue Mink and, as we know, he became a frequent and then permanent full-time member of Elton's band for 4 consecutive studio albums starting in 1974 with CARIBOU. The association between Blue Mink and Elton is remarkable.
Elton's version is fairly faithful as it does capture the energy of the original. A very upbeat pop song. He may not capture the vocal warmth of Blue Mink but he did come close.
