I'm counting on a memory to get me out of here
I'm waiting for the fog around this spooky little town to clear
All this time I've spent being someone else's friend
Just one more time for old time's sake I'd like to go back home again
The world had seven wonders once upon a time
It's sure enough the favored nations aided their decline
And all around me I've seen times like it was back when
But like back then I'd say amen if I could get back home again
chorus:
If I could go back home, if I could go back home
If I'd never left I'd never have known
We all dream of leaving but wind up in the end
Spending all our time trying to get back home again
Could have been a jailbreak and the spotlight hitting me
Or was I just some night club singer back in 1963
In the old part of Valencia on the coast of Spain
Never tiring once of hearing songs about going home again
(repeat chorus)
(repeat chorus)

This song includes some of the hardest lyrics to understand for me. I don't like the material of the verses being out of context (Valencia etc.), and the general thought on the chorus that tries to tell me I so much want to leave home but still will be spending all my time getting back to it.
5 stars anyway, because the music is so good.

4.5 stars, though I might go down by 1/4 to 4.25. Nice piano melody, good lyrics, though personally I don't quite relate to the basic concept of the song, which, I guess, is a longing for home. There's a disconnect, for me, between the lyrics and the chorus, somehow. It's hard to explain.

"Home Again" from THE DIVING BOARD:
A nice piano-based ballad with a believable emotive vocal from Elton. Produced by T-Bone Burnett using his session musicians and featuring live horns arranged by Darrell Leonard. The song's melody fits the tone of Bernie's lyrics and works well. A nice song.
"Home Again" was released as a single with a good video and had some success in the US AC charts peaking at #14.
Rating: 4 stars (not quite 4 1/2 stars)

The subtlety I really like. It makes you quiet down and pay attention. It has nothing to do with trends or today's pop, that I love too.

5 Maybe it deserves slightly less, but it's Elton's most powerful lead single since 'Believe'.
