"Funeral For A Friend" from the Hammersmith Odeon in London 1973:
Great song to begin with. The opening "live" version here is actually using a taped intro which was always the case with the live band concerts in the 70s, 80s, and later until much later when Guy Babylon and then Kim Bullard actually played the intro live rather than tape being used. This live version has an impressive bass from Dee Murray and EJ's piano has so much energy and drive.
This live version ended up on the GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD - 40TH ANNIVERSARY SUPER DELUXE EDITION box set released in 2014. Always a great live song even when done without a band - those great shows with only Ray Cooper. The song simply sounds brilliant to this day. It is really the centrepiece of these FAREWELL YELLOW BRICK ROAD concerts.
Rating: 5 1/2 stars

4 stars...I like the rendition on Here and There (at MSG) better. This version is quite good, but the One Night Only performance (DVD) and the aforementioned Here and There (still my favorite rendition of this great song) are better.
