You say today was not so easy
Pressure tends to get the best of you
Well don't let them break your spirit
Keep the faith and you will come on through
And I'll head home for the weekend
You're tired and you know I'll understand
Just be waiting on the front steps baby when I get there
And take a giant step into my hands
And slip into my soul glove
Pull it on we got a tight fit
Never take it off
And baby if the seam's rough
And honey if the skin's soft
You and me we go together
Oh like a soul glove
Look at me don't you believe me
Cheating hangs a noose around your neck
To shave in someone else's mirror
Is one desire I haven't dreamed of yet
But I'll head home for the weekend
You're tired and you know I'll understand
Just be waiting on the front steps baby when I get there
And take a giant step into my hands

One of the better songs from IOF. A really nice effort, though there's not that much soul in it. 4½ stars.

"Soul Glove" from ICE ON FIRE:
A decent and barely soulful mid-tempo song propelled by horns that sounds like it might have fit on SLEEPING WITH THE PAST. A bit mechanical and far from organic, "Soul Glove" apparently was originally recorded with a string section. I always felt that the song was on the verge of going somewhere but it never really does. Still, a decent song lost in the middle of Elton's vast catalogue.
Rating: 3 1/2 to 4 stars

Great, should have been a third single. In one or two countries it was. I like the line about shaving in someone else's mirror. I don't like the George Michael influenced synth sound of Ice on Fire, but that slight icy tinge works alright here.
Not good to decide what style a song seems like it's supposed to be, R&B in this case, and judge it for not sounding enough like that. EJ transcends styles and adds something different.

I agree, this would have been a good choice for a single. One of my favorites from this album. One of the funnier songs on the album. 5 stars

4 stars...Nice mid tempo tune that bears the marks of a decent single. Catchy, pleasant enough, though unremarkable, my guess is that if another single would have been issued, this would have been it.

5 Obscure song that could have been classic. Brilliant.
