I do rather prefer the original, although this remix isn't really bad.

"I Don't Wanna Go On With You Like That" - Shep Pettibone Mix:
The original version of the song from REG STRIKES BACK was a big hit in Canada (#1) and the US (#2). The Shep Pettibone version was a dance floor mix which pushed Elton onto the US Hot Dance Club Play chart to #7. The extended song appeared first on a 12" vinyl release with the original single plus "Rope Around A Fool" which was a LEATHER JACKETS outtake. This version was also released as a 3-song maxi CD single and then appeared on the box set TO BE CONTINUED. The Shep Pettibone mix coming in at 7 minutes and 20 seconds is almost a full 3 minutes longer than the original version.
It captured the dance floor nicely upon release in 1988 but does have a bit of that sound associated with a certain time. Regardless, an effective and energetic mix of a song that launched EJ onto the dance charts. Nice to have an upbeat piano-centred hit. The original song became a concert favourite until the new millennium when Elton put it aside. Elton would play it both with a band and also in solo shows.
Rating: 5 stars

This version got some radio airplay. I do like the original album version better. This is pretty good too. 5 stars.

4 stars...One nice thing is that the piano conclusion, which should have been a bit longer on the studio version (it fades just as it really heats up) is preserved here. Also, the bass really throbs.
