This is the best version of SNAFF for me. Lot's of energy, plus I love the long section where the audience sings the outro.
5+ stars.

"Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting)" from CAPTAIN FANTASTIC AND THE BROWN DIRT COWBOY Deluxe Edition:
This live version is extremely good considering Elton had just put the band together in time for the London Wembley concert. They hadn't had much time to rehearse together but managed to rock this one nicely. Gone were Nigel Olsson and Dee Murray. New in the band were Roger Pope and Caleb Quaye who had worked with Elton in his early years plus James Newton Howard, Kenny Passarelli and Jeff Baxter. This version really rocks. Great version.
Is that a clavinet (James) I hear in the song during the chorus?
Rating: 5 + stars

Pretty good version,I prefer the studio version to most live versions of this song. Especially the newer live versions with all the synths, This version is pretty good, more guitars with less synths. Good piano playing too. 5 stars Does anyone know why the change in band members back at this time?

Agreed. I, too, am not a fan of the recent live versions of "Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting)." I prefer guitars, as originally written, rather than keyboards. This 1975 Wembley concert is filled with guitars. Rock songs need to have a rawness or edge to them that guitars offer up better than keyboards. Too bad John Jorgenson wasn't available for the FAREWELL YELLOW BRICK ROAD tour as it would be great to have he and Davey exchanging guitar licks.

3.5 stars....I don't think that there's any live version of this song on officially-issued recordings that really does justice to the studio version, this one included.
