An interesting live version of the song. The instrument Ray is playing is funny.
4½ stars.

This is probably my favorite version of this song, even better than the studio version, Love the duck calls by Ray.
5 stars

4 stars...the Duck Call by Ray Cooper boosts this otherwise so-so rendition to 4 stars. Nowhere near as good as the studio version. Like much of the Here side of Here and There, it's rather 'antiseptic' for lack of a better word. The only songs I really like a lot from that side of the Here and There album are Love Song, Burn Down The Mission, and Bad Side Of The Moon, all of which excel.
Otherwise, for a great rendition of Honky Cat, Elton's solo performance at Ephesus, on the Dream Ticket DVD, is the best live performance I've heard, followed by the MSG 60Th Birthday performance.
It may just be that this song is difficult to truly re-create live unless there's a full horn section present.
