Tread on my face if you like little lady
Turn me inside out if you have to baby
But don't you cross me off your list
I am young and I ain't never been kissed
Never been kissed by a lady called Amy
You're far out, you're fab and insane
A woman of the world, it's quite plain
My dad told me Amy's your name
Said he'd break my neck if I played your game
But he can bust my neck 'cause I love you all the same
chorus:
Amy I know you don't have to show your affection
'Cause the big boys like you and to you I'm an infection
So if you don't want me around
I think I'll run along and drown
You can't want this bum in town Amy
(repeat chorus)
I'm beaten on the streets 'cause I loves you
I watch you go to work in the summer
I don't whistle at you down the street
I would if I could but I can't whistle you see
Amy I may not be James Dean
Amy I may not be nineteen
And I may still be in romper boots and jeans
But ooh, Amy you're the girl that wrecks my dreams
Amy I may not be James Dean
Amy I may not be nineteen
And I may still be in romper boots and jeans
But ooh, Amy you're the girl that wrecks my dreams

I've used to dislike it, but now I don't. The song is actually somewhat funny. 4½ stars.

5 stars...I could have gone with 4.5, but it's closer to 5. While the song is a fun little toss-off, it's really good, and a fun commentary on teen dating angst. The band, then newly formed and probably eager to show their talents in full measure, percolate throughout this jaunty rocker, much as they do on every uptempo song on the disc, which showcased Dee's considerable bass skills, Nigel's signature drumming style, and new addition Davey's versatile guitar work.

It's not just fun. Despite the lyrics, the music makes it a dark, tense, almost surreal, overwhelming experience. I love how the orgasmic tension builds until the sudden end, going into Mona Lisas... this moment may be the climax for the album... as well as for the character Bernie is painting for us!
5+ stars.

"Amy" from HONKY CHATEAU:
A cool song from Elton's 1972 HONKY CHATEAU album. Guest Jean-Luc Ponty plays electric violin on this one and makes an impact. Nigel's drums are prominent and Ray Cooper guests on congas as well. Elton played this live in 1972. This was the first album that Elton had his live band (Nigel, Dee, and Davey) record an entire studio album together.
Rating: 4 1/2 to 5 stars
