This has been discussed but not throughout - what do you think?
In my opinion SDTM didn't have enough hit potential to become a bond tune. It has a mood and lyrics for such song, but the music is not enough commercial. The music is very melancholy, but something is missing. It's a great song but it should be brilliant to be enough good for a 007 movie.

"Shoot Down The Moon" as a James Bond song:
Absolutely not. This is one of those few songs of Elton's that I just cannot listen to. James Bond movies are slick and fast-paced spy movies. This song just does not fit the movie genre well at all, in my opinion.
Apparently George Michael convinced Elton to include it on ICE ON FIRE...

I like the song and as I've said before to me it sounds like a bond song...really when you look at the people that have sung bond songs..(apart from A few) I mean really, Sam Smith, K.D Lang, Garbage...can't believe that they never came calling on Elton to sing a bond song...maybe he was always to busy?

I like the idea. Speeding the song up slightly, making it louder, getting some Shirley Bassey type to belt it out at the top of her lungs... the song might become interesting then.
