Elton & Bernie's SLEEPING WITH THE PAST has turned 30 years of age. Hard to believe that much time has gone by! To celebrate the anniversary eltonjohn.com has created a nice story about the album: www.eltonjohn.com/stories/sleeping-with-the-past-30It is amazing how the album only achieved its great sales success close to year after its release when "Sacrifice" and "Healing Hands" were released together as a double single. The single and the album then rocketed to #1 in the UK and across Europe in 1990. The album went to #1 in at least 3 countries and was multi-platinum in sales in at least Australia (4X), Italy (4X), UK (3X), Canada (2X), and Switzerland (2X). The song "Sacrifice" was the #3 song of the entire year for 1990 in the UK. "Whispers" and "Blue Avenue" are two very strong songs as is "Sacrifice" as well as "Durban Deep" and "Healing Hands" and "Club at the End of the Street." Very clean production sound. I was fortunate enough to see the tour early on (Saratoga Springs, NY) before SLEEPING WITH THE PAST came out so we were treated to 4 new songs that had yet to be released. I bought this album very recently on the newly remastered 180 gram vinyl and enjoyed the record possibly more than I did when it came out. Too bad Elton rarely plays "Sacrifice" (should have been played in Europe at the FAREWELL concerts in 2019) and never plays "Healing Hands" - at least not since the original SLEEPING WITH THE PAST tour. Anyone here with memories or thoughts about the album or tour? Doug

One of Elton's best. Every song is great on its own, but my personal favorites are Healing Hands, Sacrifice, Club, Amazes Me and Blue Avenue.

His most consistent and arguably best effort of the 1980's. No filler, every song contributes to the album. Durban Deep is an excellent opener; Whispers achieves an airy atmosphere. I Never Knew Her Name is an improvement over Kiss The Bride from Too Low, and Blue Avenue is one of his best songs from the decade and that era in general. The title cut is one of my favorite 'sleeper' songs, pun intended.
This is also Chris Thomas' best production effort as well. As you said Doug, it's a clean sounding recording.
