Okay, this is a simple question: What is in your opinion the oldest Elton John song you can award five stars? I think this is a very interesting topic, since many of us can give that to a song even before the self-titled Elton John album.
Mine is "It's Me That You Need". Wonderful melody, decent lyrics, but the music is so good that I must give it full points.
Yours?

Oldest EJ song to get a 5-star rating?
Interesting. There were a bunch of good songs that never did find their way onto any of Elton's early albums such as EMPTY SKY or ELTON JOHN. I may change my mind on this but for now I will give the nod to "Empty Sky" - the title track of EJ's first album.

Not quite 5, but Empty Sky and Just Like Strange Rain.

I'd say Gulliver from Empty Sky. The title cut comes close. Otherwise, I'd rate the other songs as solid 4's, for the most part.
I've Been Loving You would not get 5 stars, but I've taken a shine to it. It's Me That You Need would get a solid 4, and it's one of the best produced early songs. Bad Side Of The Moon would rate around 4.5, so obviously close to a 5.
