"Your Starter For..." from BLUE MOVES:
"Your Starter For..." is an instrumental written by guitarist Caleb Quaye who had written the original form of the song a few years earlier and used it as a pre-concert warm-up exercise. Since Elton wished to open the BLUE MOVES album with an instrumental he liked what he heard of this song and he and the band recorded it live in an astounding 2 takes. That was one tight band!
"Your Starter For..." provides a fresh opening to BLUE MOVES. It didn't sound like most EJ songs; guitars and mandolins led the way. It provided an excellent intro to the album and led nicely into the magnificent "Tonight" which started with 2:58 of instrumental music itself. This side of BLUE MOVES remains possibly my favourite side of Elton John music along with side one of GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD. A side of music showing maturity and creativity.

4.5 stars...It's my "demo" song, that is, whenever I want to see how my music system sounds, or check the sound after buying something new or moving things around, I play this song, because it's well-recorded (as is the entire album) and is short and to the point (unlike Out Of The Blue, which is quite good but kind of meanders until Ray and Elton really kick it up with percussion and piano taking center stage).
