My high-flying, high-flying bird
My high-flying, high-flying bird
My high-flying bird
Has flown from out my arms
I thought myself her keeper
She thought I meant her harm
My high-flying, high-flying bird
My high-flying, high-flying bird
Sober in the morning light
Things look so much different
To how they looked last night
As whispers circulate all day
Their back-stage baby princess passed away
The white walls of your dressing-room are stained in scarlet red
You bled upon the cold stone like a young man
In the foreign field of death
My high-flying bird
Has flown from out my arms
I thought myself her keeper
She thought I meant her harm
She thought I was the archer
A weather-man of words
My high-flying bird
Has flown from out my arms
I thought myself her keeper
She thought I meant her harm
She thought I was the archer
A weather-man of words
But I could never shoot down
My high-flying bird
My high-flying, high-flying bird
My high-flying, high-flying bird
My high-flying, high-flying bird
My high-flying, high-flying bird
The white walls of your dressing-room are stained in scarlet red
You bled upon the cold stone like a young man
In the foreign field of death

"Foreign Fields" from the Elton vs. Pnau album GOOD MORNING TO THE NIGHT:
In 2012 Elton granted the synth-pop electronica duo Pnau the opportunity to sample and re-mix songs from Elton's early catalogue into a 9-song album. The result was GOOD MORNING TO THE NIGHT which roared to #1 on the UK charts, #9 in France and a rare appearance for Elton on the US Electronic Albums chart where it reached #20.
"Foreign Fields" was similar to all songs on the album in that Pnau took samples of several early Elton songs and remixed them into new songs. "Foreign Fields" sampled music from "High Flying Bird" and "Pinky" and "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" and "Chameleon" and "Cage the Songbird" and " Sweet Painted Lady." The lyric borrowed mostly from "High Flying Bird" where the song's title comes from and also from "Cage the Songbird." Pnau managed to give "Foreign Fields" an atmospheric feel with an electronic treatment. The sampling of these 6 Elton songs into a new creation worked. It would be nice to have had a second edition of Elton vs. Pnau.
