Always liked this song but never loved it, so I gave this live version 4½ stars.

"Bad Side of the Moon" from HERE AND THERE:
A fairly good song that sounds even better in its extended live version. I am a big fan of Elton's extended songs (eg. "Levon" these days) live in concert and he and the band do a nice job on "Bad Side of the Moon." Of interest, there is a Canadian rock band from the early 70s named April Wine that recorded and released "Bad Side of the Moon" in 1972. It scored at #16 on Canada's Top 50 singles chart at the time and still gets FM Rock radio airplay to this day.
I have always been a little surprised that "Bad Side of the Moon" never found its way onto an EJ studio album. It is a decent song. Interestingly, it did find its way onto both of Elton's first two live albums!
Normally I would give this song a rating of 3.5 stars but because of the good live rendition, I will score it at: 4 stars

I was surprised, when I finally heard this, that it was so different from other versions, a third version besides the usual live one and studio. I love the 45 version for its slab-of-sound feel, almost noise more than a song, blues mixed with "gothic". This H&T version treats it like a song, slowing it down, letting us hear the tune. It's a bit like the treatment given to Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, but I prefer this.

5 stars, This rendition is excellent. Along with Burn Down The Mission, the best song on the 'Here' side of the disc.
