Elton just released (July 8) his 1992 album THE ONE on 180 gram remastered vinyl:
How does the album sound? SUPERB! Beautifully remastered on heavy virgin vinyl, it has created an amazing noiseless sound beautifully presented. The album opens as a double-album gatefold and includes all lyrics and album info such as who played the instruments on every song.
I almost forgot how great THE ONE is as an album. Elton managed to create a record that combined some brilliant piano playing, solid songwriting, fresh vibrant clean expressive vocals, and a contemporary sound that fit in perfectly in 1992. He didn't sound like an older musician peddling his older sounds - the album "fit in" to the sounds/production/instrumentation of that era. No wonder it became (and remains) his highest selling studio album since 1976's BLUE MOVES.
Elton, fresh off recuperating from dealing with his addictions, created an album that showed that he can still create stunning piano parts; the scorching outro to "Whitewash County" reminds people just how rocking a piano player EJ can be. The incredible lengthy jazzy piano outro in "Sweat It Out" shows his versatility. The touching gentle piano in "The Last Song" shows how he can hit straight into the heart. Bernie's lyrics were mature and relevant for a person of his and Elton's age in life and time in the world. Top notch.
Both "Simple Life" and "The One" were hugely popular tracks here in Canada going #3 and #1, respectively, and also became concert show-stoppers in the years to follow. Both sound superb on the new vinyl pressing. Both should, without a doubt, be in the FAREWELL tour setlist.
The album also features two famous guest guitarists (Eric Clapton on "Runaway Train" and David Gilmour on "Understanding Women"). Again, the beautiful guitar work sounds so alive on this album and pressing. A real pleasure to re-visit.
THE ONE is an album well worth re-visiting.
