Here we go, the final leg of Elton's FAREWELL YELLOW BRICK ROAD tour.
It starts in Liverpool, UK on March 23rd and winds down in Stockholm, Sweden on July 8th with another 48 FAREWELL shows in between. Included is an amazing consecutive 9-night stand at the O2 in London (with a 10th show a little later on).
Elton has an additional show, billed as his last in the UK. He headlines and closes Glastonbury with a concert on June 25th.
Elton's FAREWELL tour started on September 8th, 2018 and will total approximately 330 concerts. To date, the tour has grossed over $880 million to become the largest-ever grossing tour surpassing Ed Sheeran. Incredible success. Disney announced that a major concert documentary will be released after the tour has been completed. Elton's last Dodger Stadium concert (November 20th, 2022) was streamed live by Disney+. This show had special guests Kiki Dee, Dua Lipa, and Brandi Carlile plus a brief visit by Bernie Taupin.
Set changes have generally been few and far between. After the lockdown, Elton dropped a number of songs and added only a couple; "Have Mercy On The Criminal" and the worldwide hit "Cold Heart" which was essentially EJ singing to a pre-recorded Karaoke track. Europe, in the past, had a number of songs that were especially successful for Elton across the continent such as "Are You Ready For Love" and "Song For Guy" and "Sacrifice" and "Nikita" to name a few. It would be nice to have all, some, or at least one of these songs find its way into the setlist. We'll see.
Other than those three Dodger Stadium guests, the stage for the FAREWELL tour has, for the most part, been limited to EJ and his band. One temporary change did occur in 2019 (May to July) when guitarist & musical director Davey Johnstone was replaced by John Jorgenson while Davey recovered from shoulder surgery. Jorgenson played in Elton's band from 1995 to 2000 and added tremendously to the overall live sound.
So, here we go...Liverpool later this week (March 23) starts off the last tour leg in Elton's career.
