The Elton John Band 1970 to 1975: A new YouTube video kindly uploaded by musician Jon Blackstone on April 28 features the main live Elton John Band from 1970 (Dee Murray & Nigel Olsson) through to 1975 with Davey Johnstone being added full-time in 1972 and then Ray Cooper full-time in 1974. Elton worked heavily in the studio with guitarist Caleb Quaye, drummer Roger Pope, and others on the 1969-71 studio albums but it is the band that started out as EJ's tour band and eventual studio band that this video features. Jon discusses the magic of that particular EJ Band and how producer Gus Dudgeon worked with EJ and the band to create that classic signature sound. www.youtube.com/watch?v=03EY5Vq-XNk&t=2257sIncredible to hear Dee's isolated bass in "Philadelphia Freedom." Brilliant. Thanks Jon for this much appreciated celebration of Elton's band - who should be considered candidates for the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame. As fans know, Elton still takes the stage nightly with Nigel, Davey, and Ray on the FAREWELL YELLOW BRICK ROAD tour... Doug
